Originally
running Reality on an MDIS platform,
Teignbridge District Council recognized that
this system could not deliver the performance levels or expansion options it
needed to achieve their efficiency targets. A full evaluation of the available
options led to jBASE, running on an IBM RS6000 F50, as the most viable
alternative, and a full performance testing programme was designed.

BUDGETexT,
a textbook wholesaler and VAR for bookstores, decided to migrate both
in-house and store systems to jBASE. jBASE came through for them
even before the full migration was made, when the company unexpectedly
obtained an AS/400 with a DB2 inventory management system that they

Flintshire County Council installed jBASE on
an IBM RS/6000 SP2, and migrated the housing systems to this new environment.
The result: Bryn Jones, Flintshire’s Principal Officer for Information Systems
explains, "jBASE has enabled us to retain these well proven systems and
significantly reduce costs, as well as giving us major enhancements in
performance and so improving service."

Sedgemoor District
Council moved to jBASE running under Windows NT on a Digital Alpha
Server. The choice of operating platform is explained by Paul Davidson,
Sedgemoor’s Computer Development Manager. "We wanted to avoid the technical
overhead of UNIX,Ó", he said, "though I confess we had some concerns about the
resilience of NT when faced with over 100 users. However, jBASE convinced us
that these concerns were unfounded, and so it proved."
