jBASE
IS POWERFUL
 Scalable
Using jBASE, you can freely and easily distribute your data and your code across
the topology of your network, thereby making the most of the power in your
infrastructure.
A current and long standing jBASE customer, First Direct Bank (a division of
HSBC) distribute the load from their 2000 concurrent users across 12 individual
machines using the power of jBASE. Wakefield Metropolitan District Council run
their suite of applications every day allowing up to 2000 users to benefit from
the power of jBASE.
Robust
The tools available from jBASE are designed with robustness in mind.
Opportunities for failure are minimized due to the considerations made when
designing the product. Extremely reliable applications are easily and
inexpensively achieved using jBASE. Medway Hospital in the UK were among
the first customers of jBASE and have enjoyed zero downtime of their application
since 1994.
Productive
Many of our customers chose our development platform because of the productivity
that comes with our software. A jBASE developer achieves a three to four-fold
improvement in productivity over developers using traditional tools. When
TEMENOS needed to produce an internet banking solution within weeks rather than
years, they naturally looked to jBASE to provide the necessary technology.
They were not disappointed. The entire project, from recruiting and training the
team, to rolling out the first site, took three months.
Fast
When it comes to speed of execution, there are few technologies which can
compare to jBASE. Every tool available from jBASE is highly optimized to deliver
the performance required for today's business needs. When one of our customers
needed to deliver more transactions per minute from their software, their
initial target was a highly ambitious one of 6000 transactions per
minute on their chosen platform. They were naturally delighted when their jBASE
solution was able to deliver 20,000 transactions per minute.

jBASE IS OPEN
Database
Independence
Although jBASE comes with a highly powerful multi-dimensional database built-in,
we realize that sometimes people prefer to store data in their database of
choice. One of the fundamental features that was built in to the jBASE
development system was
database independence. Before the mainstream market delivered Open Database
Connectivity (ODBC), jBASE engineers had already built a development system that
was completely platform independent. Whichever database you wish to store your
data in, jBASE can read and write to it through an open, published interface.
Native connectivity is available off the shelf for all main databases, and an
ODBC driver is available for other databases.
Platform Independence
Since our inception, jBASE has been committed to providing platform independent
software. Today, it will run on almost every commercially viable hardware and
operating system platform. This ability to port to different platforms has been
designed into the product from a very early stage. This means that you are free
to choose which hardware and operating system you want your applications to run
on and if required jBASE can also support a mixture.
Connectivity
People expect to be able to get at their data from all kinds of environments and
jBASE offers connectivity options that satisfy every mainstream requirement for
getting to your data. Whether you just want to pull some data into your desktop
applications, pull data into a Java program, or even get at your data in XML
format, jBASE makes it easy.
Development language
The language built in to jBASE BASIC (jBC) is a dialect of BASIC and combines
the power of stored procedure languages with a fully-fledged development
language. A jBASE application can be developed in almost any language available.
Our middleware comprises tools that make this easy from the most common
development environments. For more esoteric toolsets, the various connectivity
options mean that whatever tool you use, you can get at your data.

jBASE Sets you
Free
Interoperability
jBASE provides freedom in your IT environment by ensuring that there are no
barriers to your growth, either professionally or organizationally. The
foundation for this freedom is the architecture of the jBASE product set. For
example, when compiled, a jBC (BASIC) routine is simply a piece of executable
code that can be called from any other piece of executable code capable of
calling external routines. If you have jBC code that is responsible for the
routing of your fleet
of trucks, or for determining the best way to place goods in a warehouse, or for
assessing risk on a stock portfolio, then you can now call it from any other
environment — Java, Visual Basic, C or C++, or even your favorite IDE.
Flexibility
jBASE utilizes a highly flexible multidimensional data model. The fundamental
design of this database structure is one that enables you to design databases as
quickly as you design forms. So you no longer need a crew of DBAs or an army of
consultants to get it right and keep it running. Because the database allows you
to have tables embedded within other tables, you do not need to design your
application around your database, but rather design it around your business and
solving the problem at hand.
Internationalization
Another measure of freedom is the ability to deploy your applications in
different countries, even if you are not an expert in foreign languages. Using
the rules set down by the international standards organizations and policed by
the Unicode organization (www.unicode.org), jBASE provides internationalization
for your applications. The jBASE product knows what character denotes the
decimal point wherever your application is deployed. It knows the proper
character sort sequence in Japan and can work out how to write the date in
Korea. All of which is sure to set you free.
