Environmental Variables
Part One: Why?
Hosted by Lee Burstein
Most of you know that Environment Variables are important to jBASE. Here is
the first in a series of Short Topics dedicated to Environment Variables. In
this introduction you will learn what they are, how jBASE uses them, and how to
set and see them. Both Windows and *nix are discussed.

Environmental Variables
Part Two: A Minimum Environment
Hosted by Lee Burstein
Now that you have a basic understanding of environment variables, we will
discuss the minimum environment needed for jBASE to function. You will learn
about 4 environment variables to get you started. This is not a full development
or production environment, but just enough to use jBASE commands.

User Directories
Hosted by Lee Burstein
Prior to
building your application in jBASE, or migrating to jBASE, give some thought
regarding your directory structure. Consider home directories for users and
developers, an overall directory under which your account directories will
reside, source code directories, and executable directories. This Short Topic
will help you decide how to set up your user directory structure as part of your
initial jBASE planning.

Getting
Ready to Migrate: Software
Hosted by Lee Burstein
This Short Topic presentation discusses software
migration considerations apart from your legacy application code. For example,
setting up users, environment variables, and custom interface or
add-on software. Legacy assembler code will need to be re-written. B-Tree use
may need to be revised. Subroutines used in dictionaries may need attention.

Getting
Ready to Migrate: Hardware
Hosted by Lee Burstein
Will you use your existing hardware or upgrade
your server? Do you need new drivers for your printers? Will all of your
existing printers be required in the same configuration as your legacy
environment? Are there other peripheral devices that will need special
attention? This is the subject of this Short Topic.
